Joan Babcock is an artist and jewelry designer who specializes in the techniques of Cavandoli knotting and micro-macrame. Cavandoli (or tapestry knotting) is a more condensed form of knotting than traditional macramé, which is generally looser and lacier. Just one square inch can take more than an hour and contain over 250 knots. It lends itself well to geometrical patterns similar to traditional weaving and is often mistaken for detailed loomed beadwork until it is seen more closely. Joan resides in Santa Fe, NM and is known for her original jewelry designs which combine intricate knotting with beads, stone and metal elements.
